How to Get a Job as an Expat in Thailand

How to Get a Job as an Expat in Thailand

If you’re looking for a change of lifestyle, then there are few better options than living and working in Thailand.

There are many reasons why Thailand is a top destination for expats abroad, but there are also many people who would love to move but are held back by worries about getting a job.

So, why should you be considering Thailand if you’re looking to move abroad, and how can you go about doing it? Here are some top tips if you’re looking to get a job as an expat in Thailand.

Why Thailand?

For those of us who live in colder climates, one of the big appeals of Thailand is the wonderful weather. You’re going to see sun pretty much the whole year round, and you’ve got some amazing scenery to enjoy it in. Luckily, there are plenty of jobs out there for English speakers, and with the help of an experienced recruitment agency like RECRUITdee, your dream job in Thailand could be right around the corner.

The style of life you can lead in Thailand is very different to what we have in colder countries, and the comparatively cheap cost of living is another big bonus. There are also lots of different visa opportunities for Thailand which allow you to live and work without too many restrictions.

Where to Start?

An easy place to start is by checking job listings and seeing if there are any jobs that match your skills. There are lots of multinational companies in Thailand with a need for English speakers and many of them are happy to perform initial interviews through Skype.

There’s currently a scarcity of mid-level professionals around South East Asia in IT, finance, and consulting, which means there are lots of possibilities for eager expats. If you’re looking for a change up, then this could be the ideal way to do it!

What Other Jobs are Out There?

There are a number of different industries that are popular for expats to work in.

Tech

Tech jobs such as programmers, graphic designers, digital marketers, and developers are in high demand wherever you go, and Thailand is no different.

This is a popular profession for people looking to live and in work in Thailand, as there are jobs available, or there is the possibility of working as a freelance.

English Teachers

This is one you commonly hear about people doing, particularly in South East Asia, however, you will need some qualification above just being a native speaker. The higher paid positions will require you to have at least a bachelor’s degree.

Depending on your qualifications, you might need to take a TEFL certificate to prove your ability to teach. If you take this certificate in Thailand at an accredited school, then the 4-week course can guarantee you a teaching job.

Hospitality

Tourism plays a big part in the Thai economy, and where there is tourism there is always hospitality.

Hotels, cruise ships, resorts – they all need workers, so there are plenty of opportunities.
