The American University of Sharjah was founded in 1997 by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the UAE and Ruler of Sharjah. This independent, not-for-profit institution is also joining in with the Middle East’s major drive to breathe new life into intellectual studies. As part of this drive, it also university also invests in research projects as the UAE moves increasingly towards a knowledge-based economy.

The university is modelled on US educational institutions while still remaining true to its deep-rooted Arabic culture. At the same time, the university remains open to all: race, color, gender, religion, disability, age or national origin are no issue. Lack of funds needn’t be an obstacle to studying there either. Scholarships and loans are available to encourage promising students who need some financial assistance.

The courses

Anyone wishing to study at the AUS has a range of choices and can opt for undergraduate or postgraduate studies. If you’re looking to specialize, you’re in with a good chance of finding something in your area of expertise, since the university has schools or colleges in the following areas: architecture, art and design, arts and sciences, engineering and business administration.

When you graduate, you will have a world of opportunity at your feet. Enjoying campus life

Campus life is an important part of studying. Halls of residence are clean and comfortable and feature a computer lab and Wi-Fi so that students can continue their studies outside of the classroom. They are also a good place to network and make friends with fellow students, offering pool and snooker tables, and TV. Naturally, there is also a laundry room.

The campus itself also has a library and is well connected. Shuttles also run to Sharjah, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain to and from the campus.

Anyone thinking of studying at the American University of Sharjah is thinking of studying in the right place. The university has a whole host of partners who are assisting in its progression, such as Nestle, P&G, Loreal Middle East and the Central Bank of the UAE, to name a few. The charity is also friends with, amongst other organization, the charity Easa Saleh Al Gurg Foundation, which supports charity housing and other social projects.
