Traditionally, students are known for being cash-strapped and poor. However, now that it’s easier and easier to start a business, many are taking advantage, making some money while studying, and are even realising their personal ambitions early. Studying full time is tough enough as it is, let alone when combined with starting a business, so here are three simple tips to help you juggle both.
Become an early bird
Unfortunately, there are only so many hours during the day, and one of the biggest things that you are going to have to master if you want to successfully work on your side business while studying, is to master your time. While it seems like there just sometimes isn’t enough of it and it’s impossible to get all of your tasks done, waking up earlier and organising yourself can make a world of difference. It enables you to focus on both studying and your side hustle, and even have some time for yourself after. Waking up earlier adds an extra hour or two to your day, so instead of forcing yourself to work on your business in the evenings when you’d rather be relaxing on the sofa watching Netflix, set your alarm for an early rise. Waking up every day at 5 or 6 am will be hard at first, but once you get used to it, it’ll become a part of your everyday routine, enabling you to get more done during the day, and then some. Also, it has been noted that many people feel their most productive in the mornings due to having more energy and being in more peaceful surroundings. Invest in yourself first thing in the morning, like some of the most successful people in the world, and you should find that you can get everything done much easier.
Set detailed yet realistic goals
When you have so much on your plate, it is important to set yourself daily, weekly, and monthly goals to keep yourself focused and organised. If you don’t set yourself attainable goals and deadlines, then, in the end, you will be wasting your precious time as you won’t know what to focus on and when. Whether it’s checking out a load board for shipments and jobs or setting a daily time to write up your content, knowing what you need to do, where you want to end up, and the steps you need to get there is vital. Not only will this keep you motivated once you start ticking your goals off, but they will also help to keep you consistent.
Take care of your health
While creating a side business while studying is a great self-investment, you can easily stretch yourself too thin if you aren’t careful. That’s why you need to make sure that you are taking care of yourself as best as possible, both physically and mentally. While waking up earlier to gain a few extra quiet hours where you are more productive, you have to compensate for these early starts with an earlier bedtime or run the risk of burnout. When your body is tired and run-down, you are also more at risk and far more likely to catch bugs and viruses, which will then set you back. Therefore, your health should be your number one priority as if your health suffers, so does everything else. Make sure to get at least eight hours of sleep, eat a healthy, balanced diet full of lots of fruits and vegetables, and stay hydrated. Running a side hustle and studying full time also involves a lot of sitting around, so make sure to take regular breaks to stretch, exercise, and move your body. Take some time out of the day for some meditation and give your body a boost with some extra vitamins and mineral supplements.
